There may be an issue with minute accountability (I don't believe I used 60 minutes of phone time in a few days of sparse use). In my case it seems the dust has more or less finally settled. I used the AT&T SIM (the T-Mobile SIM didn't work as well in my city). With Safelink/Tracfone and their Bring-Your-Own-Phone (BYOP) one can use *any* unlocked GSM phone but one must tell Safelink/Tracfone which type of phone it is and one must purchase a Tracfone BYOP SIM card (I got mine for $1.00 at Target - they don't seem to be that hard to find) and one must be able to tell Safelink/Tracfone what that SIM card number is - there were 3 SIMs in the package I bought. Be patient and courteous with Safelink/Tracfone's support staff (you are a considerate person, aren't you?) I've encountered communication problems (some due (apparently) to VOIP to where ever) but all of the tech staff I've talked to have been genuinely interested in helping - an effort to communicate in *their* terms goes a long way towards problem resolution (all said and done one is attempting to correct an individual's (your) technical issues, issues that they deal with day in and day out).Ħ. If you are having a difficult time communicating with any particular tech, hang up and call again to get a new tech.ĥ. Keep a written record of your discussions with Safelink/Tracfone staff do *not* lose track of your "Enrollment ID".Ĥ. "Upgrade" means going from a flip phone (non-smartphone) account to a smart phone account "Downgrade" means going from a smart phone to a non-smartphone account (and 500 minutes) - ask the tech support person for the name of the procedure you're involved in so that you can later identify it on another call.ģ. Learn the lingo 'tech' support (such as it is) has a much better idea of what you want when you speak to them in there terms eg.
When calling Safelink/Tracfone use a friend's phone, either a landline or a cell phone with (preferably) unlimited minutes you'll (probably) need to make more than 2 or 3 calls to settle any particular issue you may be having.Ģ. I've been coping with Safelink/Tracfone and the ins and outs of Lifeline services for about 6 months now and I've learned a few things:ġ. PWG looks like a nice community with a very helpful moderator.
